Although described as a “strict principal” by the opposition, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari's stance is firm. He urges everyone to cooperate with the tight agenda and warns against turning Parliament into a place for politicking.

Speaking to the media after attending a National Service Program 3.0 event at the 515 Reserve Camp and a dialogue with trainees, he mentioned that he and the Deputy Speaker have the responsibility to complete the Dewan Rakyat's set agenda.

“If they want to play politics, they should use YouTube or other social media platforms. Parliament should not be turned into a political showground. The time in Parliament should be used to discuss important matters related to the nation and the people.”

“We need to pass bills, there are ministers who need to give summaries, and many questions that need answers. Hence, our agenda is extremely tight. If we are continually disrupted by these political issues, the meeting could be delayed to midnight or even 1 am, which is not viable.”

“I have set it to end no later than 8:30 pm. I used to stay up until 5 in the morning, but it was not efficient. To be fair, please do not raise unnecessary questions. If I take action, please do not be angry with me.”

Johari explained that his strict approach is to ensure the efficiency and focus of the meetings. Although the opposition may feel discontented and plan to hold a protest, he believes that is their right, and these matters are not within his jurisdiction, so he has no comment on that.

The opposition leader in Parliament, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, recently stated that if the Speaker continues to suppress their voices, they will launch a public protest.
