August 17 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the core of the Chinese Communist Party’s third-generation leadership, Jiang Zemin. Preparations for the event are nearing completion, and it is expected that the commemorative assembly will be of the highest protocol. Jiang Zemin will be the seventh Chinese Communist Party leader to be honored at such a prestigious level.
Ming Pao reported on Tuesday that the “Commemorative Assembly for the 100th Anniversary of Comrade Jiang Zemin’s Birth” will be grandly held. Since the establishment of the PRC, centenary anniversaries for leaders have generally only involved symposiums; only six others have received the highest level of commemorative assemblies, including Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Liu Shaoqi, Zhu De, Deng Xiaoping, and Chen Yun. Jiang Zemin will be the seventh.
According to reports, the assembly will be solemnly held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, organized by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and the Central Military Commission. General Secretary Xi Jinping will deliver a speech, and thousands of representatives from various sectors of the capital will attend.
In addition to the commemorative assembly, the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China and several other departments will jointly host seminars on Jiang Zemin's life and thought, with Politburo Standing Committee member Cai Qi attending the opening ceremony and delivering a speech. In addition, Beijing is also expected to issue commemorative stamps.
