Police in Upper Bavaria South stated that the tragedy happened on July 5 local time, when the 6-year-old child accidentally fell into the water from a pedal boat on Eibsee Lake. His father immediately jumped from the boat to try to rescue him. At the time, the 34-year-old mother and 4-year-old daughter were also on board. A water rescue team later brought the mother and daughter ashore.

Police said that the body recovery operation was jointly carried out by several diving teams from Munich, Nuremberg, and other places, as well as a professional diving salvage company. Police also deployed search dogs and helicopters, but found nothing. On the afternoon of the 11th, experts arrived at Eibsee Lake to locate the bodies. However, due to severe weather and other factors, the recovery operation could not continue that night. The following morning, police discovered two bodies at a depth of approximately 24 meters at the bottom of the lake.

Police have not yet disclosed whether the father and son were wearing life jackets at the time of the incident, nor whether the father, who entered the water to rescue his son, could swim.
