The Taipei District Court held a hearing on the Jinghua City case on the 15th. Former Taipei Mayor and former Taiwan People's Party Chairman Ko Wen-je stated in court, "He could never betray his supporters," and even if it cost him his life, he would not flee. If the bail is set too high, he would rather be detained inside.
On the 16th, psychiatrist Dr. Shen Zhengnan suggested that Ko should not worry about the verdict or focus his energy on legal strategies, but instead start planning how to reform a country already riddled with problems. Regardless of when Ko is released, "he should walk out of prison with dignity and set an example," and then trigger a new wave to reform Taiwan.
Regarding the court hearing on the Jinghua City case on the 15th, Ko Wen-je also made three appeals in the evening. He stated that the Jinghua City case is not off limits for discussion, but civil servants would never break the law, and innocent law-abiding officials should not be implicated. "If you want someone to detain, detain me alone." In response, Shen Zhengnan commented in a Facebook post early on the 16th that Ko’s remark about being willing to forgo bail rather than drag innocent civil servants into this, "is correct."
Shen Zhengnan advised that Ko Wen-je need not pay attention to the court outcome, nor expend too much effort on legal maneuvers. Rather, he should start envisioning how to reform this battered and neglected nation. In today’s Taiwan, whether you are a regular citizen, politician, high school student, or retired elder, "when you might be trampled by the machinery of the state is always a sigh-inducing question mark." Shen also remarked that while Taiwan has the appearance of a modern nation, "in reality, it's still a long way from the world's leading countries."
