The European Commission plans to impose tariffs on a range of U.S. export goods—including planes, machinery, automobiles, chemicals, and medical devices—should EU-U.S. trade talks fail.
According to documents obtained by the media, the EU's proposed tariff list covers U.S. products with a total value of 72 billion euros (about 355.5 billion ringgit). In addition to major industrial goods, it also includes electrical equipment, precision instruments, as well as agricultural products and food items such as wine, beer, spirits, fruits, and vegetables, with the value amounting to approximately 6.35 billion euros.
The European Commission has now submitted the relevant list to member states for review.
This is the second round of tariff measures proposed by the European Commission. In April of this year, the EU had already passed the first round of tariffs targeting U.S. goods worth a total of 21 billion euros. However, to avoid an escalation, the EU subsequently decided to delay implementation until August 6.
On the 12th, U.S. President Trump announced that starting August 1, a 30% tariff would be imposed on imports from the EU.
