U.S. President Trump stated on the 15th that the United States will "compete with China in a very friendly manner."
He made these remarks at the Pennsylvania Energy and Innovation Summit held at Carnegie Mellon University.
He said: "We will compete with them (China) in a very friendly manner. I have a good relationship with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Everyone keeps smiling, but we remain ahead. Some people say we are catching up with them— that's not the case. We are ahead of them."
He pointed out that China is accelerating its development in artificial intelligence (AI), but "we will not let them surpass us. We have the most advanced chips, we have the most advanced of everything."
He praised businesses for investing over $90 billion (about RM382.6 billion) in data centers and other energy projects in Pennsylvania, aiming to accelerate the development of artificial intelligence.
Trump also said that the U.S. has reached a great trade agreement with Indonesia and may also reach trade deals with other countries, including India.
U.S.-China Tariff Truce Deadline Can Be Adjusted Flexibly
Meanwhile, U.S. Treasury Secretary Besant said in a media interview on the 15th that the U.S.-China suspension of the 24% “reciprocal tariffs” is set to expire on August 12. The tariff truce deadline can be adjusted flexibly, and the two countries may conduct trade negotiations in a third country within a few weeks.
He described the U.S.-China negotiations as still being in a very good stage.
Besant also confirmed that the U.S. has assured AI chip giant Nvidia that the company will resume sales of its H20 AI chips to China.
He pointed out that this was one of the bargaining chips raised during U.S.-China negotiations.
