Cheng Siu-Chow Speaks Out for the First Time in 3 Years After Withdrawing from Public View, Urges Fans Not to Worry

Hong Kong’s 79-year-old veteran actor Cheng Siu-Chow has been out of the spotlight for nearly three years after enduring immense pain following the death of his eldest daughter, Cheng An-yee, in the US. Still unable to recover emotionally, he has almost disappeared from the public eye; even Liza Wang said she hasn’t contacted him for a long time. In recent years, his drastic weight loss, to the point of looking gaunt, has caused much concern. However, on the 24th, taking the opportunity of his lunar birthday, he publicly addressed his situation, writing: “I have never liked socializing, so you have seen me less often. Don’t worry!” This is seen as a message of reassurance to his fans.
An account named “Chiu Koon Art Museum Fresh Network” posted a heartfelt note signed as “Brother Chiu,” reading: “I have received everyone’s blessings and concern. In this retirement period, my pace of life has slowed down, but I still do some exercise and enjoy the things I like.” It is rare to hear from him again.

In the post, Cheng Siu-Chow explained the reason for withdrawing from public view in recent years and also mentioned: “There have been unfortunate events in both the world and Hong Kong over the past six months! I hope everyone will live happily, stay healthy, and may there be peace in the world!” Hong Kong media speculate that he refers to last year’s fire at Wang Fook Court in Tai Po and the recent Iran war tensions that have drawn global concern.
