Drunk Truck Driver Arrested in Saratok

(Saratok, 30th) — A truck driver carrying gas cylinders was arrested by the police yesterday afternoon in Saratok on suspicion of drunk driving.
The Saratok District Police Chief, DSP Mathew Manggie, stated that the dangerous driving behavior of the 48-year-old driver was recorded by a road user and widely shared on social media.
“The truck driver was seen driving recklessly on Jalan Feeder Saratok, even crashing into a roadside signboard.
“When the truck stopped at a petrol station, the Crime Prevention Patrol Unit (RCJ) immediately arrested him on suspicion of dangerous driving and suspected drunk driving,” he said in a statement last night.
Mathew pointed out that the truck driver, who is from Awik, was subsequently taken to the Saratok police station for further investigation.

This case is being investigated under Section 42(1) (Dangerous Driving) and Section 45(c) (Drunk Driving) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Mathew added that at around 5:10pm that day, the RCJ team was conducting 'Op Lejang' patrol operations in the Saratok police district.
“Our team spotted a parked truck at KM419 of the Pan Borneo Highway (near the Saratok junction), and as they prepared to approach for inspection, the driver suddenly started the vehicle and drove toward the Saratok junction,” he said.
