(Sri Aman, 30th) Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to preside over the opening ceremony of the Nanga Lasi Bridge (Jambatan Nanga Lasi) on August 9, marking another important milestone in the Sarawak government's efforts to improve rural infrastructure.
This bridge, which cost about RM5 million to construct, will benefit more than 1,500 residents and is a key connectivity project long awaited by rural communities within the Meluan state constituency (DUN Meluan).
Meluan State Assemblyman Roland Duat Jubin stated that the construction of the bridge took two years and is one of the Sarawak Parties Alliance (GPS) government's major development initiatives to enhance rural people's well-being.
He said that the bridge not only connects several residential areas but also significantly improves access for local residents to schools and clinics, eliminating the past reliance on traveling by river or on unpaved roads.
“This project has profoundly changed the daily lives of Nanga Lasi residents and also makes it easier to transport agricultural products to towns, which helps increase income and revitalize the local economy.” He made this statement to the media yesterday after presiding over the local community and ethnic leaders' (KMKK) meeting at the Pakan District Office.
Roland also called on all local leaders, including longhouse chiefs and community heads, to attend and support the opening ceremony on the day as a sign of recognition and appreciation for the state government's efforts.
He emphasized that the continued cooperation of grassroots leaders is crucial for the smooth progress of the state government's various development plans and their long-term impact on the community.
“The GPS government has never neglected rural development. We will continue to strive for more development projects to ensure that rural people can also share the fruits of development in the state,” he added.
