Democratic Action Party National Chairman and Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng states that the Islamic Party of Malaysia (PAS) is playing a dangerous political version of 'Squid Game'. This is their grand scheme, to seize power at all costs by eliminating political opponents, causing harm to the Federal Constitution, the people's economic livelihood, and national unity.
He emphasizes that this is evident in their plan to hold a unity rally on January 6, 2025, with UMNO in support of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib, who is imprisoned due to the 1MDB scandal.
"Even PAS's ally, Bersatu in the Perikatan Nasional coalition, is disappointed with PAS's decision to jointly attend the Najib support rally with UMNO. PAS is ready at any opportunistic moment to sacrifice their ally Bersatu to protect their own interests."
In a statement on Friday, Lim Guan Eng pointed out, from 2018 when they demanded the arrest and prosecution of Najib involved in the RM52 billion 1MDB scandal, to now taking a completely opposite stance at the expense of due legal process prescribed by the Federal Constitution, PAS has shown their betrayal of principles and shameless strategic exploitation.
"Therefore, the invitation from PAS Publicity Chief and Pasir Mas MP Ahmad Fadhli Shaari for me to attend the January 6 Najib unity rally is nothing but an unprincipled political stunt that goes against the constitutional legal process, a hypocritical and opportunistic act."
"I reject PAS's invitation to participate in the January 6 rally because today PAS has organized a demonstration, leveraging false accusations to attack two DAP ministers - (Minister of Housing and Local Government) Nga Kor Ming and (Minister of Youth and Sports) Hannah Yeoh."
He indicated that they claimed Muslims felt threatened by a Christmas celebration event organized by Nga Kor Ming, while targeting Hannah Yeoh for her personal religious belief as a Christian.
"This behavior is dangerous, as it clearly violates the fundamental right to religious freedom guaranteed by the Constitution. All DAP leaders will firmly stand with Nga Kor Ming and Hannah Yeoh, opposing PAS's incitement of religious sentiments and creating discord through such misleading rhetoric."
"Moreover, I will not participate in this rally as the Attorney General's Office has clearly outlined the constitutional legal procedures, which must be strictly followed to complete the clemency process by the King exercising his absolute discretion."
He further remarked that as a former Finance Minister, he witnessed first-hand the enormous economic damage caused to the nation by the RM52 billion 1MDB financial scandal.
Lim Guan Eng continued by stating that Ahmad Fadhli should not pretend to be consistent in fighting for justice. No one will forget his attempt to undermine our New Kempas by-election female candidate, Pong Pei Tay, by questioning her SPM results just because she attended a Chinese school.
"When Pong Pei Tay publicly disclosed her SPM results were straight A's, Ahmad Fadhli did not respond and still doesn’t dare to reveal his own SPM results. Eventually, Pong Pei Tay won the by-election with a huge majority."
