(Thailand, 3rd) The Thailand Meteorological Department issued an extreme weather warning on the 2nd, forecasting that the northern part of Thailand will be hit by a heat wave in the coming days, with temperatures reaching above 40°C; the southern regions will experience heavy rain due to monsoon influence, and waves in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea will exceed two meters during thunderstorms.
According to China News Service, the Thailand Meteorological Department stated that a low-pressure system, caused by extremely hot weather, currently covers the northern region of Thailand, and this is expected to push temperatures in areas such as Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son up to a scorching 40°C or higher.
The Ministry of Public Health of Thailand also urges people in these areas to beware of heatstroke, avoid prolonged outdoor activities, and reduce the risk of heat-related illness.
While the northern region struggles under the unbearable heat, the southern region is preparing for a significant shift in weather patterns. The Meteorological Department expects a strong monsoon to sweep across southern Thailand, bringing widespread rainfall and localized heavy rain. Heavy rain is expected in Surat Thani, Phuket, and Krabi. Wave heights in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea will reach one meter, and surge to over two meters during thunderstorms.
