Asmadi, Head of the Singkawang City Education and Culture Bureau in Indonesia, pointed out that National Education Day 2026 should not merely remain a commemorative ceremony, but should become an important opportunity to strengthen cross-sector cooperation and work together to reduce student dropout rates.
He stated after the local Education Bureau’s National Education Day celebration that the main issue in the field of education is ensuring that all children can complete and receive quality education.
He said, "No child should be left to drop out" should be a shared responsibility, not just the government's task, but also requiring the participation of families and various sectors of society.
Asmadi noted that the authorities have launched several measures to increase student enrollment, including strengthening formal and non-formal education systems and providing alternative learning pathways for students who cannot attend formal schools.
He said that through the non-formal education system, students can still continue their education, ensuring that their fundamental right to education is not deprived.
At the same time, the authorities are also focusing on improving education quality, and will carry out various activities from April 2026 onwards to encourage the development of students’ creativity and reading skills.
These activities include competitions in sports, arts, and literature, and also strengthening reading promotion programs inside and outside schools, encouraging teachers and students to actively participate.
Asmadi stated that the development of student potential not only helps improve performance, but can also enhance motivation to learn, thereby reducing the risk of dropping out.
He said that when students perceive the learning process as attractive and feel able to fulfill their potential, they will be more willing to complete their studies.
This year’s National Education Day event was also held in accordance with the Ministry of Education’s guidance, in a simple but educationally meaningful manner.
He hopes that through this commemorative event, consensus in society for an inclusive and equitable education system will be strengthened, and dropout rates will continue to decrease.
