Iran Will Continue to Comply with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty

Published at Jul 04, 2025 02:10 pm
Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi stated on the 3rd that Iran will continue to abide by the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and its safeguards supervision agreement.

He posted on social media that, according to a law recently passed by the Iranian parliament in response to "illegal attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities by Israel and the United States," cooperation between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency will, for "obvious security reasons," be managed through Iran's Supreme National Security Council.

On June 25, the Iranian parliament approved a law suspending Iran's cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency. The law prohibits IAEA inspectors from entering Iran to conduct inspections unless the security of Iranian nuclear facilities and Iran's right to peacefully use nuclear energy can be guaranteed, and approval from Iran's Supreme National Security Council is obtained. Iranian President Pezeshkian has approved this law.

US and Iran Plan to Hold Talks in Oslo Next Week

According to a report by US news website Axios on the 3rd, US Special Envoy for Middle East Affairs Wittkoff intends to meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi in Oslo, the capital of Norway, next week to hold talks on Iran's nuclear issue.

The report points out that if the talks take place, it will be the first "direct" dialogue between the US and Iran since last month's US bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities and the Israel-Iran ceasefire.

Citing two sources familiar with the matter, the report says that the final date for the dialogue has not yet been determined.

However, neither the US nor Iran has publicly confirmed the talks.
