(France, 10th) French President Emmanuel Macron posted on social media on the 9th, saying that France will strengthen coordination with its European partners and continue to support Ukraine. As it concerns European security, Europe must be involved in the “solution” to the Ukraine crisis.
Macron made this statement after having talks with British Prime Minister Starmer, German Chancellor Merz, and Ukrainian President Zelensky.
Macron emphasized, “Ukraine’s future cannot be decided in Ukraine's absence.”
US President Donald Trump announced on the 8th that he would meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on the 15th to discuss the Ukraine crisis. Trump had previously told the media that Putin did not have to meet with Zelensky before meeting him.
In addition, the leaders of six European countries including the UK, France, and Germany, as well as European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, issued a joint statement on the evening of the 9th, calling for any diplomatic solution to the Ukraine crisis to protect the major security interests of Europe and Ukraine.
