On the 27th, UN Secretary-General Guterres spoke at the Security Council's open debate on 'Safety and Protection of Waterways in the Maritime Domain', urging relevant parties to open the Strait of Hormuz.
Guterres said that the right of vessels to navigate the Strait of Hormuz must be respected, and the principles established by the UN Security Council on this matter must be fully and immediately upheld.
He urged relevant parties to open the Strait of Hormuz, allowing vessels to pass without fees or discrimination, so that trade can resume and the global economy can be given a chance to breathe.
Guterres said that the current situation requires all parties to exercise restraint, engage in dialogue, and build trust. Conflicts should be resolved peacefully, and he is willing to mediate in this regard.
He once again urged all parties to abide by international law, address the root causes of maritime security issues, and deepen dialogue and cooperation.
