DALAT: Flooding that hit the Ulu Baoh area following continuous heavy rain since last Thursday has forced the opening of a temporary evacuation centre (PPS) at Rumah James, Sebaya Atas, Sungai Baoh Burak on Friday.
Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine said the flooding was caused by prolonged heavy rainfall and a large surge of water from upstream areas.
“This has resulted in several longhouses being inundated within a short period of time,” he said as reported by Sarawak Public Unit Communication (UKAS).
Among the longhouses reported to be affected are Rumah Simu involving 17 doors, Rumah Lenggang (22 doors), Rumah Buan (19 doors) and Rumah Jawa (22 doors).
Authorities are currently on high alert and will continue to monitor the situation closely amid concerns that the overflow could worsen.
The public, especially residents in low-lying areas and those living near rivers, are advised to remain vigilant and comply with instructions from the authorities to ensure the safety of lives and property.
