Ju Jingyi Accused of Tax Evasion on the Eve of Her New Drama's Premiere

Chinese actress Ju Jingyi, known as the “Once-in-Four-Thousand-Years Beauty,” announced in June 2024 that her contract with her management company, SNH48 Management (SIBA Media), had expired. The two parties have become embroiled in a contract dispute, and at the end of last year, she was accused of being involved in “serious economic crimes.” On the 30th, her former agency formally reported her for tax evasion under her real name, claiming the rate was as high as 88%. The relevant authorities have accepted the report and have launched an investigation. Meanwhile, Ju Jingyi's new drama, “The Moon Scale Legends,” co-starring Zeng Shunxi, Chen Duling, and Tian Jiarui, was just announced to premiere on April 1, but now its fate may be uncertain.

On the 30th, SNH48 Management officially reported Ju Jingyi to the Chinese tax authorities, accusing her of tax evasion. They claimed that Ju Jingyi declared her 2024 income as 11 million RMB (about 6.4 million MYR), but her actual income exceeded 50 million RMB (about 29.13 million MYR), meaning she underreported her income by as much as 88%. The informant stated that detailed evidence of undeclared income had been submitted.

SNH48 Management pointed out that in just the second half of 2024, Ju Jingyi took part in over 20 film, television, and commercial projects, and conservatively estimated her actual income was no less than 50 million RMB. The Inspection Bureau of the Shanghai Taxation Bureau has confirmed receipt of the report and has launched an investigation, but emphasized that acceptance of the report does not equate to a confirmed crime.

Ju Jingyi, through her studio, responded by pointing out that SNH48 Management was spreading false information about the artist and the incident, attempting to manipulate public opinion and sabotage her career: “The artist has already commissioned lawyers to sue SNH48 Management for malicious infringement and has demanded that SNH48 Management bear legal responsibility. Regarding SNH48 Management’s slander against the artist, we will not tolerate it.”
