(Miri, 4th) The Miri Society and Harmony Welfare Club held a ceremony today to present back-to-school assistance to single-parent families.
The guest of honor, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, Minister of Transport for Sarawak, stated in his speech that the Miri Society and Harmony Welfare Club was established more than 20 years ago at his suggestion, providing assistance to single mothers and their children. To date, it has achieved notable results, and the organization hopes to continue so that more people can benefit.
He pointed out that being a single parent is not the end of the world, and one must live strongly because there are still children to take care of. Single-parent families facing problems must join the club in order for the organization to effectively provide assistance and handle various issues step by step.
“Children must go to school, and I am very pleased that many children from single-parent families have succeeded in their studies, with some even becoming professionals.”
He announced that from 2026, Sarawak students will receive free university education, hoping that young people can strive in their studies, while parents should also encourage their children to study hard.
It is reported that a total of 90 aid packages were distributed to primary and secondary school students at the event.
