(Bandar Seri Begawan, 26th) Chinese Ambassador to Brunei Xiao Jianguo is very pleased to gather here with everyone to jointly celebrate the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. First of all, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Brunei, I warmly welcome the Minister of Home Affairs, Dato Ahmaddin and his wife as the guest of honor to the reception, and I extend my sincere respects to friends from all walks of life who have long cared for and supported China and China-Brunei relations!
Last night, at the reception celebrating the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China held at the Rizqun Hotel, Ambassador Xiao Jianguo delivered a speech.
The ambassador said that 76 years ago, the founding of the People’s Republic of China began a new historical era of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Braving wind and rain for 76 years, the Communist Party of China has united and led people of all ethnic groups in relentless struggle, achieving a great leap from standing up, becoming prosperous, to becoming strong.
“Especially since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, under the firm leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, China’s development has achieved historic accomplishments and realized historic changes. The magnificent scroll of Chinese-style modernization is gradually unfurling, and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is unstoppable!”
The ambassador stated that today’s China is dynamic and full of vitality. China firmly holds its place as the world’s second largest economy, the largest industrial nation, and the top goods trading country, and continues to be an important engine and stabilizer for global economic growth. Since the beginning of this year, China's economy has risen to challenges and maintained steady progress. In the first half of the year, the GDP reached 66.1 trillion yuan, an increase of 5.3% year-on-year, and the total import and export of goods reached 21.79 trillion yuan, setting a record high for the same period in history.
“China has clear development goals, consistent planning, firm reform measures, and pragmatic macro policies, enabling China’s economy to withstand cycles and move steadily forward, continuing to inject greater stability and certainty into the world economy.”
The ambassador said that the key to doing China’s affairs well lies in the party. The Communist Party of China is the most reliable backbone of the Chinese people and is always courageous in self-reform. This year, we carried out in-depth study and education throughout the Party to implement the spirit of the eight-point regulations of the CPC Central Committee, invigorating our spirit, boosting unity, and ensuring that the Party always remains the strong leadership core wholeheartedly embraced and trusted by the people, leading the nation and the people to keep forging ahead and achieving new and greater victories.
The ambassador added that this year marks an extraordinary year for the development of China-Brunei relations. In February, His Majesty the Sultan made a successful state visit to China, during which the two heads of state reached important consensus on jointly building the China-Brunei community with a shared future, pushing the millennium-old friendship between China and Brunei into a new era. In the first seven months of this year, the bilateral trade volume between the two countries reached US$1.636 billion. China has been Brunei’s largest source of foreign investment and one of its top three trading partners for consecutive years.
“The flagship project of the ‘Belt and Road’ between the two countries—the Hengyi Petrochemical project—is operating at high quality, the Muara Port expansion project is progressing steadily, and both countries have announced mutual visa exemptions, making personal exchanges more frequent and convenient.”
Not long ago, I was invited to attend the launching ceremony of the smart green classroom donated by Chinese enterprises at Masinah Princess Secondary School. In classrooms lit by photovoltaic power, I saw children touching brand new equipment, their eyes shining with curiosity and joy, reflecting their thirst for knowledge and longing for the future; this is also the sincerest recognition of China-Brunei friendship. We are willing to implement more livelihood projects with Brunei, expand digital and green cooperation, let more seeds of friendship take root in the hearts of the two peoples, and enable greater benefit from economic diversification for Bruneian people, thus creating an even brighter tomorrow for China-Brunei relations.
The ambassador noted that this year also marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. On September 3rd, Commander Hazaimi of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and more than 60 other foreign leaders and senior representatives gathered in Beijing to remember the great victory and gather the forces of justice and peace.
Today, the world is undergoing changes unseen in a century at an accelerated pace. The international system with the United Nations at its core is under severe impact, and the global governance system urgently needs reform and improvement. President Xi Jinping recently proposed the Global Governance Initiative, which clearly sets forth the five core concepts—upholding sovereign equality, observing international law, practicing multilateralism, advocating people-oriented approaches, and focusing on results, aiming to reform and improve global governance and consolidate the UN’s authority and central role; this has been widely welcomed and supported by the international community. The Global Governance Initiative, following the Global Development, Global Security, and Global Civilization Initiatives, is another major public good contributed by China for responding to global challenges. The four initiatives complement each other, injecting more positive energy into a world experiencing turmoil and changes. China is willing to work together with all parties including Brunei to strengthen cooperation and jointly implement the Global Governance and other three major initiatives, joining hands to stride towards a community with a shared future for mankind.
The ambassador expressed gratitude to the Little Red Flower Art Troupe from Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, who will soon present wonderful performances. I hope everyone, through these cultural performances, will appreciate the beauty of China’s outstanding traditional culture and feel the vigor and vitality of China’s “Generation Z” and “Generation Alpha.”
The Little Red Flower Art Troupe hails from Nanjing, which reminds me of the special connection between this city and Brunei. Over 600 years ago, the King of Boni (an ancient Bruneian kingdom) visited China and, after passing away, was buried with royal rites in Nanjing. During the Sultan’s visit to China in February this year, witnessed by the two heads of state, Minister Ahmaddin and Nanjing officials renewed the sister city relationship agreement between the two cities.
On this occasion, the ambassador also expressed heartfelt thanks to Minister Ahmaddin for his long-term care and support for China-Brunei relations, especially the friendly interaction between Nanjing and Bandar Seri Begawan!
Finally, the ambassador sincerely wishes our great motherland a happy birthday and everlasting prosperity! May the friendship between China and Brunei last forever! Wishing all guests good health, peace, and happiness!
