(Kuching, 21st) The Sarawak Forestry Department (FDS), in collaboration with Cahya Mata Sarawak Berhad (Cahya Mata), has planted a total of 7,500 high-value native tree saplings this year at the Sebarau Forest Reserve in Simunjan.
According to a press release, the most recent tree planting event was held on September 20 (Saturday), during which 2,500 saplings were planted, including species such as engkabang, belian (ironwood), meranti, and kapur.
The event saw the participation of 80 people, including staff from the Forestry Department and Cahya Mata, lecturers and students from UNITAR Kuching campus, as well as members of the local community. This demonstrated a sense of collaboration and shared responsibility in driving forest restoration efforts.
The statement noted: “This is the third joint tree planting activity this year by the Forestry Department and Cahya Mata, highlighting both parties’ strong and ongoing commitment to enhancing biodiversity, restoring forest landscapes, and addressing climate change.
“This partnership also showcases the important role of the private sector in advancing the forest landscape restoration agenda in Sarawak.”
This initiative is part of the ‘Greening Sarawak Movement’, with the Forestry Department continually welcoming cooperation from all sectors to strengthen forest landscape restoration efforts across the state.
