(Bandar Seri Begawan, 26th) At the celebration marking the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Brunei and China, Brunei-China Friendship Association President Chan Kah Fook delivered a speech, reviewing the development of bilateral relations and calling for further deepening of cooperation and people-to-people exchanges in various fields on the existing foundation.
In his speech, Chan Kah Fook first expressed his gratitude to the Chinese Embassy in Brunei, the China Public Diplomacy Association, and all individuals from various sectors who have long supported the development of Brunei-China friendly relations.
He pointed out that over the past 35 years, Brunei-China relations have steadily advanced from the early days of diplomatic ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership. The fruits of cooperation now cover many areas, including trade and investment, infrastructure, healthcare, education, culture, sports and tourism, logistics and communication, as well as technological innovation, bringing tangible benefits to the peoples of both countries.
He emphasized that the friendship between Brunei and China did not just begin with the 35 years of diplomatic ties, but can be traced back to much earlier historical exchanges. Long-standing cultural and people-to-people bonds have laid a solid foundation for bilateral ties and made both sides cherish dearly the hard-won cooperation achievements.
When talking about the driving force behind the development of bilateral relations, Chan Kah Fook noted that state-to-state relations depend not only on government-level agreements and project promotion, but also require stable, long-term interactions and mutual trust at the grassroots and people-to-people level.
He said that promoting friendship between the peoples of Brunei and China is not just a task, but a long-term responsibility, and should be advanced with a pragmatic attitude and firm efforts.
Looking to the future, he proposed that bilateral cooperation should be promoted with even more active and innovative approaches, stressing that this work is not only about commemorating the achievements of the past 35 years, but also about laying a solid foundation for the next generation to build peace, mutual trust, and common development.
Chan Kah Fook also expressed gratitude to the governments of Brunei and China, affirming both sides’ long-standing support and strategic guidance in promoting bilateral relations, and said this is an important guarantee for the continued deepening of Brunei-China ties.
He called for the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations to be taken as a new starting point, to further strengthen mutual trust, deepen cooperation, and expand exchanges, jointly advancing the comprehensive strategic partnership between Brunei and China to new heights, and making greater contributions to the peoples of both countries and to regional peace and prosperity.
