(Bandar Seri Begawan, 14th) President of the Brunei Fujian Association, Fang Yanhe, stated that in welcoming the representative delegation from the Xiamen University Returned Overseas Chinese Federation of China, who have traveled across the sea, they have not only brought with them the sincere sentiments from their alma mater, but also established a valuable bridge of exchange between the overseas Chinese communities and academic circles of both places.
He said that Fujian and Brunei have a profound historical connection, and the kinship among the overseas Chinese has been passed down for generations. Xiamen University, as an outstanding representative among higher institutions in Fujian, has always been an important link between the overseas Chinese academic community and local development. The Returned Overseas Chinese Federation has long cared about the well-being of overseas Chinese and supported educational development. This visit serves as both recognition of the Association’s efforts and a new opportunity to promote cultural and educational exchanges and talent interaction between the two regions.
In his speech while receiving the delegation from the Xiamen University Returned Overseas Chinese Federation of China at the Brunei Fujian Association today, Fang pointed out that they very much look forward to this exchange, firstly to explore and promote more pragmatic cooperation, strengthen the interaction between universities and overseas Chinese communities, and promote student exchanges, scholar visits, and joint research.
(2) To encourage more young people to pursue further studies at Xiamen University and other Fujian higher education institutions; (3) to jointly organize cultural seminars, promote the inheritance of Minnan dialect and traditional skills, preserve local dialects and customs, and strengthen identity; (4) to establish enterprise and innovation platforms to facilitate the translation of educational achievements into social and economic development, benefiting overseas Chinese and youth in both regions.

The Brunei Fujian Association is willing to work together with the Returned Overseas Chinese Federation of Xiamen University of China, based on mutual respect and win-win cooperation, to deepen exchanges, make cooperation more concrete, and transform the kinship between the two overseas Chinese communities into a lasting driving force for educational, cultural and social development.
