The fifth round of China-US economic and trade talks was held on the morning of the 25th in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Chinese delegation is led by He Lifeng, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, and includes Li Chenggang, China's Vice Minister of Commerce and International Trade Negotiator. The US side is headed by Treasury Secretary Besant and Trade Representative Greer. Observers expect that the talks will focus on China's control over global rare earth minerals and magnet supply.
Previously, the Chinese side indicated that China and the US will, in accordance with the important consensus reached in several calls between the two heads of state this year, consult on key topics in bilateral trade relations. The US side stated that rare earths, fentanyl, and soybeans are the three major issues it raised with China.
On Friday, Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao pointed out that China has always insisted that dialogue and cooperation are the only right choices for the two countries. As a responsible major country, China has always opposed decoupling and severed ties, and firmly maintains the security and stability of global production and supply chains. The first four rounds of China-US economic and trade consultations have fully demonstrated that, on the basis of mutual respect and equal consultation, the two sides can completely find ways to address each other's concerns, find a mutually acceptable way to get along, and promote healthy, stable, and sustainable development of China-US economic and trade relations.
