A man in Kentucky, USA, was struck by lightning in both 2007 and 2023. After the second lightning strike, he claims to have gained the ability to “predict storms”—he can sense the arrival of a storm several days in advance and can tell whether it will be a heavy or light storm. He also says his body's polarity has been permanently altered.
According to international media reports, 66-year-old Danny Devine from Kentucky has been struck by lightning twice in his life. The first incident occurred in 2007 while celebrating his grandson's birthday. He was hosting a pool party outdoors when a sudden storm appeared. He asked his family and friends to go inside, but just as he shut the door, he was unexpectedly struck by lightning. Danny was rushed to the hospital and woke up with no memory of the incident. It ultimately took him three years to regain all of his memories.
Danny was struck by lightning for the second time in 2023, but this time, it happened in his own home and he did not require any medical treatment. Devine admits that after the second strike, he was completely changed inside and has acquired a “superpower” to foresee storms. According to Devine’s wife, “He can feel a storm coming days in advance and can tell whether it will be a big one or a small one.”
Experts have pointed out that lightning can temporarily change the polarity of the human body, but Devine claims his polarity has been “permanently changed.” In reality, lightning typically carries about 300 million volts and can heat the air up to 30,000 degrees Celsius. Lightning is extremely destructive—if it strikes a person, it can instantly vaporize body water, disrupt heart rhythms and cause death, or even burn the person, a phenomenon known as a lightning strike. Even if not directly struck, metals on the body may induce a strike or transfer its power through the ground; the fatality rate is between 10% and 30%.
