This October 25th marks the 80th anniversary of Taiwan Retrocession Day. On the 24th, the 18th meeting of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress on the mainland passed a resolution to establish October 25th as 'Taiwan Retrocession Commemoration Day'. KMT Chairman Eric Chu stated that history should not be twisted or kept silent because of partisan differences or ideology. The other side has its own position, but Taiwan was recovered by the 'Republic of China', and Taiwan belongs to the 'Republic of China.'
According to the United Daily News, on the day, Eric Chu attended the international academic seminar 'From Lugou Bridge to Zhongshan Hall: A Review and Dialogue on the 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the War of Resistance and Taiwan Retrocession.' When asked about Taiwan Retrocession Day and the mainland now seizing the discourse power while the ruling party remains silent, Chu said today is the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's retrocession. From the public’s perspective, this is a very important commemorative day, which is why the Legislative Yuan approved it as a national holiday. He believes history should not be twisted or kept silent because of political parties, and even more so not because of differences in ideology.
Chu emphasized that many civic organizations and the KMT are present today to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's retrocession. Public opinion will steadfastly support that Taiwan belongs to the 'Republic of China', and that it was the 'Republic of China' that recovered Taiwan. The 80th anniversary of retrocession is of course a day worth celebrating. The other side has its own position, but they reiterate once more that Taiwan was recovered by the 'Republic of China', and Taiwan belongs to the 'Republic of China'—this is beyond any doubt.
