Russian President Putin stated on Wednesday that Russia has successfully conducted a test of the 'Poseidon' nuclear-powered unmanned submersible.
According to China News Service, citing the Russian presidential website, Putin said that on Tuesday Russia carried out a test of the 'Poseidon' unmanned submersible equipped with a nuclear propulsion system. Not only was it successfully launched from a submarine for the first time using a booster engine, but its nuclear propulsion system was also successfully ignited, providing power to the submersible for a period of time.
Putin noted that the 'Poseidon' nuclear-powered unmanned submersible is unique in terms of speed and diving depth, and cannot be intercepted. Its power far surpasses that of Russia's new intercontinental ballistic missile, the 'Sarmat.' He added that the 'Sarmat' ICBM would soon enter combat duty.
Putin also stated that the recently successful test of the 'Burevestnik' nuclear-powered cruise missile featured a small-scale nuclear-powered propulsion system with power comparable to a nuclear submarine reactor, but one thousand times smaller in size, and capable of starting in just a few minutes or even seconds. He said this technology could be applied in the civilian sphere in the future, help solve energy security issues in the Arctic, and be used in upcoming lunar exploration projects.
Putin recently announced that during exercises of Russia's strategic nuclear forces, a long-range test of the 'Burevestnik' nuclear-powered cruise missile was conducted. All key objectives had been fully achieved, and he described it as a 'world-unique' product.
Russian presidential press secretary Peskov stated that all tests of Russia's advanced weapons were conducted strictly in accordance with relevant international law and bilateral agreements, and in compliance with all notification protocols.
