U.S. President Trump told the media on the 30th that his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping was “very successful,” and that all rare earth issues have been resolved.
He pointed out on Air Force One that a key rare earth supply agreement, valid for one year and renewable, had been reached with President Xi.
He said: “All rare earth issues are resolved, and this applies to the whole world. The agreement is valid for one year and will be renegotiated every year thereafter.”
He also stated that tariffs on China will be reduced from the current 57% to 47%, while tariffs on fentanyl will be cut from 20% to 10%.
He pointed out that the meeting with President Xi was “very good,” and if rated from 1 to 10, this Xi-Trump summit would score a 12.
Trump said, “We finalized a lot of things” in this round of talks.
He praised Xi Jinping as “an outstanding leader of a very powerful nation.”
He stated that soybean purchases will commence immediately, and that chips were indeed discussed with Xi.
He said: “They will negotiate chip purchases with NVIDIA and other companies.”
Visit to China in April Next Year
Meanwhile, Trump said that he will visit China next April.
He said: “I’m going to China in April, and then he will come here, whether it’s in Florida, Palm Beach, or Washington, D.C.”
Taiwan Issue Not Discussed
On the other hand, Trump pointed out that the Taiwan issue was not brought up in the meeting with Xi.
He said: “The Taiwan issue was never mentioned. In reality, we simply didn’t discuss it.”
Trump stated that China and the U.S. will “work together” on the Ukraine war issue.
He said: “Xi Jinping will help us; we’ll work together to resolve the Ukraine issue.”
