(Seria, 2nd) Acting Principal of Chung Hwa Middle School, Brunei, Du Xiu Ying has recently completed the '2026 Overseas Chinese School Administrators Leadership Training Program' held at the Beijing Chinese Language Institute, and returned home with honors. The ten-day training brought together 79 principals and key management personnel from Chinese schools across Europe, Southeast Asia, and around the globe. Its aim was to enhance the comprehensive leadership of overseas Chinese school managers through high-level training, thus promoting the high-quality development of Chinese language education.
During the program, Acting Principal Du listened to a series of specialized lectures. Among them, the lecture by Mr. Shan Jixiang, Chairman of the Academic Committee of the Palace Museum and Dean of the Palace Museum Institute, made a strong impression. Mr. Shan deeply recalled the long journey and steadfast perseverance behind China’s application for World Cultural Heritage status, vividly illustrating how strategic determination and forward-looking planning can overcome difficulties and ultimately tell China’s story well to the world. He promoted the vision of taking the Palace Museum "from the confines of its buildings to the greater world," greatly expanding the space for cultural dissemination. This sense of mission in "upholding tradition while innovating, and passing on cultural heritage" provides an invaluable model for how overseas Chinese schools can revitalize Chinese cultural resources and deepen campus cultural construction in the context of the new era.
In terms of school management practice, Du Xiu Ying thoroughly studied Professor Zhao Erdong’s concept of “prioritizing both efficiency and effectiveness.” Professor Zhao’s teaching included a wealth of practical case studies, offering in-depth analysis of the core role of communication in organizational management, and put forth this philosophy to remind everyone to focus not only on execution speed but also on the actual effectiveness of management. In particular, the “4W1H” communications framework offered a systematic methodology for optimizing decision transmission within the school and strengthening team cooperation.
The corporate visit segment was also eye-opening. Acting Principal Du and the group visited iFlytek, where they observed firsthand the broad prospects of artificial intelligence empowering education. From cross-lingual real-time translation systems, to intelligent grading technologies, and data-driven learning analytics, the demonstration of cutting-edge technology has opened up fresh ideas for Chung Hwa's digital transformation of Chinese language teaching.
In addition, the training program incorporated activities such as educational drama experience, exploration of traditional Chinese medicine culture, and an ascent of Juyongguan Great Wall, realizing the ideal of "unity of knowledge and action," and deepening understanding of Chinese culture. At Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center, Du Xiu Ying and others experienced the allure of educational drama firsthand and learned how to harness drama elements to boost student engagement and creativity in the classroom. At Guangyuyuan Traditional Chinese Medicine Museum, they appreciated the profoundness of Chinese medicine culture amid the setting. Climbing Juyongguan Great Wall instilled a sense of the enduring strength and richness of Chinese history and culture. This "unity of knowledge and action" approach gave participants a much deeper understanding of Chinese culture.
Acting Principal Du stated that this program was intense, informative, and meticulously arranged, greatly broadening the horizons of overseas Chinese school operations and, through cultural immersion, knowledge renewal, and experience exchange, truly fulfilled the intended objectives of "broadening experience, inspiring ideas, and enhancing cultivation," from which all trainees benefited tremendously.
