The Korean High-ranking Public Officials Crime Investigation Office (Public Investigation Office) may execute an arrest against President Yoon Suk-yeol as early as Thursday (2nd).
The Seoul Western District Court issued an arrest warrant for Yoon Suk-yeol on December 31st last year, and the Public Investigation Office has coordinated with the police regarding the specific execution time and method. The validity period for the execution of the arrest expires on the 6th of this month.
However, the Presidential Security Service may obstruct the Public Investigation Office from entering the presidential residence to execute the arrest warrant, citing safety and security reasons.
It is reported that the Public Investigation Office has sent an official document to the Presidential Security Service, warning that “obstructing the execution of detention may result in punishment for misconduct and obstruction of special official duties”.
Meanwhile, in a message conveyed to supporters, Yoon Suk-yeol stated, “Due to threats to sovereignty posed by internal and external forces, as well as activities by anti-national elements, Korea is currently in danger.”
Yoon Suk-yeol’s lawyer, Yoon Kap-geun, confirmed the statement to AFP.
Yoon Suk-yeol said, “I vow to fight alongside you to the end to protect this country. On Wednesday night, I watched protests involving hundreds of people on a YouTube live broadcast.”
