The CEO of PUSPAKOM, Mahmud Raza, pointed out that from October 2023 to January this year, the vehicle inspection center dismissed 37 employees involved in integrity issues.
He stated during the Metro Daily's "Apa-Apa Saja" podcast program that the issues involved include non-compliance with standard operating procedures, disciplinary problems, and accepting bribes.
“Additionally, we have suspended 30 employees who are currently under investigation.”
Prior to this, he mentioned that six inspection officers suspected of accepting bribes to approve heavy vehicle inspections have been suspended.
Mahmud Raza, who assumed office in October 2023, expressed his commitment to reshaping the image of the vehicle inspection center.
“Integrity is not limited to corruption or false reporting, but also includes dishonesty in performing duties. I cannot deny that some employees lack integrity, but not all employees are like this.”
He noted that some employees perform their duties very well and cited a recent case where an employee was slapped by the public.
According to reports, in November last year, a 59-year-old man slapped a center employee because he was dissatisfied that his lorry did not pass the vehicle inspection center's check.
“In the incident, as seen in the video, even though the employee was provoked, he remained calm and did not shout loudly.
He added that the requirement for heavy vehicles to be inspected once every six months is sufficient. “The most important thing is to educate the public on self-restraint and to take on the responsibility of maintaining vehicle safety.”
