Thailand Will File a Lawsuit Against Cambodia

Published at Aug 06, 2025 12:23 pm
On the 5th, Thai Prime Minister's Office Spokesperson Chaiyaruek stated that Thailand's Acting Prime Minister Puttan ordered during a cabinet meeting on the same day to instruct all relevant departments to draft legal documents. These are aimed at pursuing criminal and civil lawsuits, both domestically and internationally, against Cambodia for "violating Thailand's sovereignty with military force and weapons, which has caused significant loss of life and property for Thai civilians and military personnel."

Chaiyaruek said that the Thai National Security Council has been appointed as the lead agency to consult with the Thai Army, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Public Health, and other relevant agencies. The Secretary-General of the Office of the Council of State will also participate by providing the necessary legal advice for prosecuting the commanders and responsible parties involved, in order to file lawsuits and claim damages as soon as possible.

He stated that although a ceasefire has been achieved along the Thai-Cambodian border and the Thai-Cambodian Joint Border Committee meeting is being held in Malaysia, there are still many tasks that need to be carried out by various Thai agencies, including removing unexploded ordnance fired by Cambodian troops, investigating abnormally incoming drones, and helping people return home safely in stages.

Residents of High-Risk Areas Not Yet Permitted to Return Home

Earlier, Puttan pointed out to the media that the military has indeed not approved the return of residents from high-risk areas at present, and this decision is based on safety assessments. If there is evidence of negligence or violations at any shelter center, those responsible will be strictly held accountable.

He pointed out that the military's assessment is that the current situation remains unsafe and strict control is still needed to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.
