On the evening of the 5th, Cambodian Ministry of Defense spokesperson Mali Souchheata stated at a press conference that the Cambodian side has removed the barbed wire set up by Thai troops inside Cambodian territory.
She said: “The barbed wire illegally set up by the Thai side on August 4 in the Ansae area of Preah Vihear Province has been removed, and the relevant machinery ceased operation on the afternoon of August 5.”
She noted that the removal was carried out after discussions and negotiations between the Cambodian and Thai militaries.
She pointed out that the Ansae area is located inside Cambodia, and after the Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire agreement took effect at midnight on July 28, the area has been under the control of the Cambodian armed forces.
On the 4th, Mali Souchheata had stated that Thai soldiers entered Cambodian territory that morning and set up barbed wire despite strong opposition from Cambodian troops. The Thai side later responded, saying that the area in question was Thai territory.
