Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni has issued a statement announcing that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and will be traveling to China for long-term treatment.

The 72-year-old Sihamoni said in a statement to the nation on the 10th that doctors in Beijing "have diagnosed me with prostate cancer," adding that doctors have developed an inpatient treatment plan that could last up to two months.

According to AFP, Sihamoni has remained unmarried, and is fluent in French, Czech, and English. He spent most of his adult life abroad working in the arts, until ascending to the throne in 2004.

His father, Norodom Sihanouk, abdicated after receiving cancer treatment in Beijing, with Sihamoni succeeding to the throne.

During Sihamoni's stay in Beijing for treatment, Senate President Hun Sen will temporarily act as head of state.
