On the 10th, Thai Prime Minister Anutin officially announced the launch of the 2026 Songkran Festival "Dangerous Seven Days" Road Traffic Accident Prevention Command Center at Thailand’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, deploying key tasks for traffic safety, fuel supply, and travel convenience during the holiday, and called on all sectors of society to work together to reduce casualties from traffic accidents.

Thailand’s Songkran Festival, also known as the Water Splashing Festival, is one of the most significant celebrations in the country. Anutin stated that this year’s Songkran holiday is relatively long with concentrated population movement. The government, enterprises, and volunteers need to strengthen cooperation and work all out to ensure the safety of people returning home and traveling for tourism.

From April 11 to 17 last year, a total of 1,538 road traffic accidents were reported, resulting in 1,495 people injured and 253 deaths. In the same period of 2024, there were 2,044 traffic accidents, with 287 deaths and 2,060 people injured.

According to statistics, during the Water Splashing Festival holiday in 2025, the main causes of accidents are speeding (39.92%), drunk driving (22.18%), and overtaking (20.97%). The most common vehicle involved in accidents was motorcycles, accounting for 85.77%.
