(Johor, 3rd) A serious traffic accident occurred in the early morning on the Johor Yong Peng section of the North-South Expressway, involving an express bus, a trailer, and an oil tanker lorry. The incident resulted in two foreign nationals being trapped and killed inside the vehicle, while 16 others were injured and sent to hospital.
The accident happened at 12:44 a.m. on Wednesday (the 3rd) at the 80.7 km mark along the southbound direction of the North-South Expressway. The two deceased were an express bus driver and a passenger, identified as 43-year-old Sidirman and 44-year-old Juhaidi, both Indonesians.
The Johor Fire and Rescue Department issued a statement saying that there were 46 people on the express bus at the time. Another bus driver and 14 male and female passengers were injured, while the remaining 28 were unharmed. The drivers of the trailer and oil tanker lorry were also uninjured.
The statement noted that upon receiving the report, personnel from the Yong Peng and Ayer Hitam fire stations were dispatched to the scene for rescue operations.
“Firefighters found two people trapped in the vehicle and used special equipment to extricate them, but medical personnel at the scene confirmed that both showed no signs of life.”
