(Kuala Lumpur, 9th) A global mobility entrepreneur pointed out that with the rise of blockchain innovation and the active development of the world’s first Shariah-compliant products in the field of crypto banking, Malaysia possesses all the conditions to become a global pioneer in Shariah-compliant digital finance.
Handa, CEO of Singapore-based startup Multipolitan, said that Kuala Lumpur should utilize the well-established Islamic finance ecosystem in the country to create its own unique positioning in the global digital asset ecosystem.
In a recent interview with Bernama, he said that this approach would be wiser than directly competing with other international financial centers.
He believes Malaysia should also focus on increasing institutional participation in the digital asset ecosystem, rather than relying mainly on retail investors.
“Especially considering that Kuala Lumpur was ranked among the world’s top ten cities in Multipolitan's 2026 Crypto-Friendly Cities Index, released in June this year on a lifestyle and wealth advisory platform.”
Handa said that Malaysia has the potential to become a pioneer in the field of Shariah-compliant digital finance, with its advantages including having certified digital assets, dedicated exchange accounts, asset-backed tokens, crypto mutual funds, and interest-free staking agreements.
He explained that these products meet halal standards as they avoid interest, excessive speculation similar to gambling, high uncertainty, and involvement in prohibited industries.
“Kuala Lumpur can adhere to the philosophy of focusing on niche segments and deep development, while maintaining its leading position in Islamic finance.”
Handa mentioned that Multipolitan is also exploring including Malaysia in its expansion plan. In addition to Islamic finance, Kuala Lumpur—with its strategic location, skilled talent, and competitive operating costs—possesses the qualifications to become a regional hub for shared services.
Handa described Malaysia’s geographical location as the “ultimate hedge” in the current global environment, and said that Malaysia allows companies to access quality talent at moderate costs, making the capital Kuala Lumpur an ideal base for launching regional operations.
