(Bintulu, 2nd) A fire broke out yesterday afternoon at Kampung Jepak Sebuan Besar in Bintulu, destroying eight houses and leaving 27 residents homeless.
The fire occurred at around 2:30pm yesterday afternoon. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
A spokesperson from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department Operations Center (PGO) stated that after receiving an emergency report at 2:35pm, teams from the Bintulu and Kidurong fire stations were immediately dispatched to the scene.
According to the statement, upon arrival, firefighters found that two houses with semi-brick and wooden structures were 90% and 100% destroyed respectively, while another six non-permanent structure houses were also affected, with varying degrees of damage ranging from 10% to 100%.
The firefighting team quickly launched fire suppression operations, using a hose line connected to a fire hydrant and a Scania fire truck from Kidurong Fire Station to bring the blaze under control.
The firefighting efforts continued, with water supplied by the fire truck and hydrant, successfully preventing the fire from spreading to neighboring homes.
Firefighters also carried out 'overhaul' work at the scene to thoroughly remove embers and burning material within the site, preventing the fire from reigniting.
