KUCHING, July 2: Police have detained a 28-year-old man in connection with an alleged case of outraging a woman’s modesty.
In a statement, Kuching District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said that on June 30 at 1.03pm, a report was received from the victim, a 34-year-old local woman, regarding the incident.
According to the report, earlier on the same day at around 7.15am, she was in Jalan Sultan Tengah when an unknown man attempted to approach her from behind.
Following the report, police detained the suspect near Taman Sukma here.
A preliminary urine screening on the suspect returned negative for drugs. Further checks revealed that the suspect has two prior criminal records.
The case is being investigated under Section 354/511 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum prison sentence of up to ten years, or a fine, or caning, upon conviction.
