KUCHING, July 2: The main suspect in the murder of a private university student from Kuching in Cyberjaya is believed to have stayed overnight at her condominium unit after being given access by his girlfriend — who was also the victim’s housemate — before allegedly acting on malicious intent to fatally assault the victim.
In a Bernama news report, Selangor Police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the unemployed local man in his 20s had been provided with the key and access card to the condominium unit by his girlfriend.
During the incident, the victim was alone at home as her housemates, including the suspect’s girlfriend, were not present.
“We believe the suspect had ill intentions towards the victim and took advantage of her being alone. On the night of June 24, he allegedly attacked her with a blunt object, resulting in her death,” he said at a press conference held today at the Selangor Police Contingent Headquarters.
Following the murder, the suspect is believed to have stolen several items belonging to the victim, including her bank card, mobile phone, and laptop. He later disposed of the electronic devices along with the house key and access card.
“The suspect also withdrew RM200 using the victim’s bank card. However, police have since recovered part of the stolen items,” he added.
The main suspect was among four individuals who were previously remanded. The remaining three — all women — include his girlfriend, a friend of the victim who lived on the upper floor of the same condominium, and another individual who accompanied the main suspect during the ATM withdrawal.
Hussein said police managed to solve the case within 48 hours following the arrests. All suspects remain in remand while investigation papers are being finalised for submission to the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s Office.
