Police Arrest a Local Man in Miri, Seize 30 Kilograms of Cannabis; Conviction May Lead to Death Penalty

(Miri, 1st) The Sarawak Police Headquarters Narcotics Crime Investigation Department, together with the Miri District Narcotics Crime Investigation Department, launched an operation on the afternoon of March 31 at around 3:30 PM in Miri, resulting in the arrest of a 25-year-old local man and the seizure of 30 kilograms of suspected cannabis with an estimated market value of about 93,000 Malaysian Ringgit.

Miri Police District Chief ACP Alexson Naga issued a statement today stating that during the operation, the police searched the location and seized a large quantity of suspected drugs. Preliminary investigations suggest the suspect is involved in drug trafficking, and the case will be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

According to the relevant law, if convicted, the suspect may be sentenced to death; if not sentenced to death, he may face life imprisonment and at least 12 strokes of the cane. The police have applied to the Miri Court for a remand, and the court has approved the suspect's detention for seven days to assist in further investigation.

The police urge the public to report any information related to drug crimes to the nearest police station immediately to assist the authorities in combating drug crimes and maintaining public safety.
