(Kuching, 18th) Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) acquired a 10% stake in Pertama Ferroalloys Sdn Bhd through an equity transfer memorandum of understanding signed yesterday.
This equity transfer agreement marks an important step forward in economic growth, community development, and sustainable initiatives in Sarawak.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari, with Pertama Ferroalloys Chairman and Managing Director Hirotaka Suzuki and Bintulu Development Authority General Manager Datuk Muhamad Yakub in attendance.
This collaboration builds on the previous successes of Pertama Ferroalloys and Bintulu Development Authority, including a bamboo planting project successfully launched in November 2023, demonstrating their commitment to sustainable practices and environmental protection.
In his speech at the ceremony, Hirotaka stated that this partnership goes beyond financial investment as it also aims to make a positive contribution to the social and environmental well-being of Sarawak.
He hopes that the support from both parties will not only boost Bintulu's economic growth but also contribute to the economic growth of Sarawak and Malaysia as a whole.
“This initiative will improve the welfare of local communities and set an example for institutions and leaders in Sarawak to mobilize sustainable initiatives, aligning with the vision of post-2030 COVID-19 development strategies.”
Pertama Ferroalloys' first smelting plant is Malaysia's first large-scale ferro-silicon and manganese alloy plant.
The company produces and sells manganese alloy products for the global steel industry, prioritizing sustainability and profitability.
