(Miri, 18th) Sarawak's Deputy Minister for Women and Children's Development and Bekenu State Assemblywoman Dato' Rosey Yunus stated that Christmas and New Year are important festivals celebrated by various communities in Sarawak, regardless of race, religion, or background, demonstrating a spirit of unity and gratitude together.
She attended the opening ceremony of the 2024 Christmas and New Year celebration organized by the Lutong Fire Station last night, which also marked the start of the firefighter birthday, family day activities, and the farewell for auxiliary firefighter Aaron Daino Chundang ak Jimmy.
Rosy praised the Lutong Fire Station for successfully hosting the celebration for the first time in collaboration with its staff and their spouses' team, conveying Sarawak's rich multicultural features to the community.
She pointed out that this celebration not only symbolizes the spirit of unity among Sarawakians but also enhances friendship and cultural identity within the community.
“Through such symbolic activities, we can strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation, continuing to maintain today's harmony and prosperity.”
Rosey also praised the Lutong Fire Station for actively inviting community leaders and village heads from the N.75 Senadin constituency to participate in the event, noting that such efforts can further consolidate the spirit of cooperation within the community.
In her speech, Rosey sent her messages for the new year, urging people to support each other and progress together. She emphasized that if there are shortcomings, please remind and complement each other; if there are misunderstandings, sincerely apologize and forgive; if certain goals are not achieved, continue to strive and do not give up easily; if feeling lost, hold steadfast beliefs and embrace challenges. She encouraged everyone to embrace the new year with hope and confidence, while also reminding that “man makes efforts, but ultimately, the outcome is decided by heaven.”
In the event, Rosey praised the firefighters for their heroic performances in dealing with emergencies, fires, and natural disasters, considering them as symbols and guardians of community safety. She quoted the verse 32 of Surah Al-Ma'idah from the Quran, "Whoever saves one life, it is as if he saved the entirety of humanity," expressing her immense respect for the firefighters' selfless dedication.
She especially mentioned that Lutong Fire Station recently successfully hosted Sarawak's first community firefighting competition, significantly enhancing the public's firefighting knowledge and crisis response capabilities through this initiative.
She stated that the close cooperation between the fire station and the community is an important cornerstone for building a harmonious society.
During the event, Rosey announced a grant of 15,000 ringgit to support the Musolla Al-Azhar construction plan at the Lutong Fire Station, to cater to the religious needs of the station staff.
She highly commended the efforts of the main promoters of this plan, the director of the Lutong Fire Station, Henry Jugah, and his team.
She expressed her gratitude to all the fire station personnel, community members, and supporters who put in efforts for this event, stating that she will continue to support the organization of similar events in the future to strengthen community cohesion.
