(Kuala Lumpur, 30th) Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari has been awarded the Sustainable Visionary Award by the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) Malaysia-Brunei.
This award was presented last night at the UNGC Malaysia-Brunei Appreciation Night by the organization's Executive Director, Faroze Nadar.
In a special speech delivered before receiving the award, Abang Johari emphasized that this recognition is not a personal achievement, but rather the result of institutionalized leadership, a dedicated team of civil servants, and partners who firmly believe that "sustainability must be put into concrete action."
He said: "All the progress achieved by Sarawak stems from the collective cooperation of all departments, agencies, and teams, continually ensuring that economic growth, environmental protection, and social responsibility go hand in hand."

On another note, UNGC Malaysia-Brunei stated in a press release that the Sarawak Ministry of Energy and Sustainability was awarded the Forward Faster Sustainability Nexus Award for successfully establishing policy frameworks and institutional support, effectively strengthening the implementation of sustainability initiatives, especially in advancing the private sector.
UNGC Malaysia-Brunei stated that these two recognitions reflect the importance of top-level leadership, and the key role of enabling agencies in accelerating the realization of concrete and measurable sustainability outcomes.
The statement added: "This award highlights Sarawak's transition from policy commitment towards continuous, orderly, and efficient sustainable action, comprehensively covering the areas of Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG)."
