(Kuching, 30th) — The Sarawak General Operations Force (GOF) Brigade, through 'Ops Taring Charlie,' conducted enforcement actions at four different locations from Monday to Wednesday, seizing a batch of unlicensed fireworks and firecrackers with a total value of approximately RM2.2 million.
Sarawak Brigade Commander Senior Assistant Commissioner Lim Bak Phai stated that during a raid in Kuching, police detained a 35-year-old local man and seized fireworks and firecrackers worth RM159,448.
He said that in Lubok Antu, police arrested an 18-year-old local man and seized a total of 5,676 pieces of fireworks and firecrackers, estimated to be worth RM371,700.
“In Bintulu, police also detained a 40-year-old local man, seizing 8,778 pieces of fireworks and firecrackers as well as a vehicle, with the seized items valued at RM1,572,135,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Lim Bak Phai added that in Sibu, police further detained a 49-year-old local man and seized fireworks and firecrackers worth RM107,262.
He said all suspects and seized items have been handed over to their respective District Police Headquarters (IPD) for further action, and the case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957.
