Will Not Succumb to US Threats, Macron: Will Not Cancel Digital Tax

French President Macron stated on the 15th that France will not yield to US threats and cancel the digital tax targeting American tech giants.

In an interview with France's TF1 in Évian-les-Bains, he said that the digital tax is part of the European legal system, some countries have already implemented it, and the United States has no right to make laws for Europeans or the French.

Earlier that day, US President Trump indicated that the US would impose a 100% tariff on French wine unless France cancels the digital tax targeting American tech giants.

Macron said that increasing tariffs is of no benefit to the United States, as it will not resolve the US's trade problems and will instead raise the price of certain goods.

He hopes to discuss and negotiate these issues with Trump to find a solution.

In recent years, France and other European countries have actively pushed for the imposition of digital taxes on the business activities of large US tech companies such as Google, Amazon, and Apple in their own countries, a move strongly opposed by the US. Since 2019, France has levied a 3% digital tax on certain digital service revenues within its territory.
