15-Year-Old Boy Inserts 2 Long Needles Into Urethra; Develops Infection and Shock, Needles Removed Completely Rusted

A 15-year-old boy, out of curiosity, inserted two acupuncture needles about 10 centimeters long into his urethra, resulting in a severe infection that led to high fever, vomiting, and other symptoms, requiring emergency hospitalization.

According to Hong Kong media am730’s compilation, teenagers in their puberty may engage in dangerous behaviors due to lack of scientific understanding during their development and self-exploration phase. A 15-year-old boy in Suzhou, China, nicknamed Keke (pseudonym), was urgently transferred from another hospital to a hospital in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, due to high fever and vomiting. It was later discovered that two weeks prior, out of curiosity, he had inserted two acupuncture needles, about 10 centimeters long, into his urethra. Fearful and embarrassed, he had hidden this from others, resulting in a foreign object in the urethra, which then triggered a severe infection and caused him to go into shock upon hospitalization.

It is reported that the boy’s father works in traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture, and acupuncture needles were kept at home. When asked by doctors, the boy initially claimed he had only inserted one needle and had done so for two days. However, based on the infection severity, doctors thought two days would not have caused such a critical infection, or made urination impossible. It was only after continued patient questioning that the boy admitted that two acupuncture needles had been inside his body for two weeks.

Doctors revealed that when the boy was admitted, he was already in a state of septic shock, with a rapid heartbeat, clouded consciousness, mottled skin, and his condition was once life-threatening. Eventually, using a minimally invasive cystoscopy procedure, doctors successfully removed the two rusted acupuncture needles in one piece. The boy has since recovered well and has been discharged to rest at home.

Doctors remind parents that if they find their children experiencing unexplained painful urination, hematuria, high fever, vomiting, abdominal pain, or other abnormalities, they should take their children to a regular hospital in time. Never attempt to remove foreign objects by yourself to avoid causing further harm.
