(Miri, 25th) - Miri MP Chiew Choon Man attended the Free Glasses Assistance Program at SK Pujut Corner Primary School yesterday (24th), distributing free glasses to 35 students with impaired vision.
This program is driven by the "Malaysia All-Party Parliamentary Group on Sustainable Development Goals" (APPGM-SDG) in the Miri parliamentary constituency (P.219), aimed at helping students from B40 low-income families improve their vision so they can study smoothly and look forward to a better future.
Chiew Choon Man remarked that the significance of this program lies not only in providing glasses to those in need but more importantly, in enabling them to see more clearly, enhance learning efficiency, and improve daily life.
"Good vision is a vital foundation for learning. With these glasses, students can focus more on the classroom without their studies being hindered by blurred vision. We hope this assistance will lead to a smoother path in their education journey."
APPGM-SDG is an initiative approved by Malaysia's 15th Parliament, dedicated to pushing for the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

This free glasses assistance program aligns with several SDG goals, including Quality Education (SDG 4), helping students with vision issues to ensure they gain fair learning opportunities without falling behind due to vision limitations; Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), offering free eye checkups so students can detect vision problems early and receive proper treatment, improving their quality of life; Reducing Inequality (SDG 10), specifically providing assistance to students from B40 low-income families to ensure they don’t miss out on correcting their vision due to economic factors, ensuring every student has fair access to education.
Chiew Choon Man emphasized his ongoing commitment to promoting quality education, ensuring every student in Miri can enjoy good learning conditions. He also called on various sectors of society, including businesses, NGOs, and concerned individuals, to actively support similar educational assistance programs, enabling more students to benefit.
"No child should fall behind because they can’t see clearly, and we must ensure every student learns under the best conditions."
He stated his commitment as a people's representative to continually promote more health and education-related programs to ensure students receive comprehensive, quality, inclusive education.
"We hope the free glasses assistance program will benefit more students in the future, helping them achieve greater success in academics and life."
