(Miri, 25th) Miri District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner (KETUA POLIS DAERAH MIRI ACP Alexson Naga Anak Chabu) confirmed that the Miri District Police Headquarters (IPD Miri) Criminal Narcotics Investigation Department (NCID) conducted a raid yesterday, successfully arresting 3 local men suspected of engaging in drug trafficking and abuse activities.
The police carried out the operation on February 24 from 11:20 AM to 1:00 PM along Jalan Bekenu and Jalan Pujut, successfully apprehending 3 suspects.
During the raid, enforcement officers discovered and seized 64.14 grams of suspected methamphetamine, estimated to have a market value of RM 7,060.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. If convicted,
the suspects could face the death penalty, or life imprisonment and at least 12 strokes of the cane.
Additionally, the suspects will also face investigations under Section 12(2) (a fine not exceeding RM 100,000 or a 5-year prison sentence, or both) and Section 15(1)(a) (a prison term not exceeding 2 years, a fine of RM 5,000, and a supervision period of no more than 3 years) of the same Act.
The police will bring the 3 suspects to Miri Court to apply for remand for investigation and urge the public to actively provide information related to drug-related crimes to assist the police in curbing drug distribution and maintaining social security.
