‘Jingdezhen Handmade Porcelain Heritage’ Successfully Inscribed as World Heritage

The 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, currently being held in Busan, South Korea, adopted a resolution on the 25th to inscribe the “Jingdezhen Handmade Porcelain Heritage” on the World Heritage List. With this, China’s total number of World Heritage sites has reached 61.

According to Xinhua News Agency, the “Jingdezhen Handmade Porcelain Heritage” is located in the northeastern part of Jiangxi Province, China, and consists of five components: the urban porcelain production center, Hutian ancient kiln site, Gaoling kaolin mine site, Changling porcelain stone mine site, and Jiaotan kiln firewood fuel production area. It includes 15 heritage elements such as the Royal Kiln Factory kiln site, Luomaqiao kiln site, Guanyinge kiln site, Dawukeng porcelain stone Ming mine site, Xiaowuli Valley porcelain stone mining and processing site, as well as remnants of the water and land transportation network, totaling 45 heritage locations.

The “Jingdezhen Handmade Porcelain Heritage” serves as a representative legacy of Jingdezhen’s handmade porcelain industry system from the 10th to the 19th century. It showcases the innovation and development of Chinese handmade porcelain technology, porcelain art, and the porcelain industry, and bears witness to the profound influence of Chinese handmade porcelain on the development of the global porcelain industry and the exchange of civilizations.
