(MIRI, 20th) Sarawak Chinese Association Permanent Honorary Advisor, Datuk James Ling Suk Kiong expressed that unity is the cornerstone of Sarawak's development, as all ethnic groups jointly celebrate the Lunar New Year, showcasing Sarawak's unique charm of multicultural harmony and coexistence.
He made these remarks during the 2025 Year of the Snake Lunar New Year Grand Banquet Dinner hosted by the Sarawak Chinese Association at the Miri Imperial Hotel last night.
James Ling mentioned that the Lunar New Year symbolizes renewal, prosperity, and the strengthening of ties. This year's grand banquet not only welcomes the Year of the Snake but also serves as an opportunity to promote national unity, cultural heritage, and harmony. Leaders from 19 ethnic associations in Miri were specially invited to share the joy of the festival, reaffirming that harmony and respect are the cornerstones of a peaceful society.
"With a deep sense of pride and heartfelt gratitude, I stand here tonight, feeling the atmosphere of unity and joy. Tonight, we transcend racial boundaries and celebrate together."
He pointed out that Sarawak's strength comes from the blending of diverse cultures. It is the responsibility of every Sarawakian to accept and respect each other's differences. Events like this Lunar New Year Grand Banquet provide a platform for cultural exchange and strengthening friendships among ethnic groups, which helps to further cement connections.
"Diversity is Sarawak's pride, and unity is the foundation for driving shared prosperity. Through understanding and inclusion, we can live in peace and jointly create a better future."

James Ling particularly praised the Sarawak Chinese Association for its outstanding contributions to promoting unity and cultural heritage in recent years.
He mentioned that last year's "Borneo Taste" carnival was recognized by the Malaysia Book of Records, showcasing "hello" in 70 dialects and more than 504 ethnic handicrafts, fully reflecting Sarawak's rich cultural heritage. The student cultural dance competition also highlighted the talents of the younger generation, injecting hope and vitality for the future.
He congratulated newly appointed President Lee Tiansong and the new committee, looking forward to the Sarawak Chinese Association continuing to promote social unity and progress under its new leadership.
James Ling urged all sectors of society to work together with greater dreams and a spirit of cooperation, achieving greater accomplishments in fields such as science, culture, business, and education. He stated that the future of Sarawak and Malaysia lies in the hands of the younger generation, encouraging them to use their talents and dedication to make Sarawak a symbol of harmony and progress.
"Let us unite and work together to achieve Malaysia's outstanding performance on the international stage. Whether in sports, science, or cultural exchange, we can turn diversity into our greatest advantage."

He mentioned that Sarawak's spirit of unity is not only reflected in cultural and festive activities but also integrated into daily life. Whether it's the coexistence of mosques and churches in neighborhoods or people from all ethnicities gathering in cafes, it reflects the inclusive and harmonious spirit of the Sarawak people. He hopes this spirit of unity can spread throughout the country and become a model for Malaysia.
"Under the visionary guidance of Sarawak Premier Abang Johari and other leaders, we are laying a solid foundation for lasting peace and prosperity."
James Ling emphasized that the new year is a beginning full of hope and harmony. He hopes this Lunar New Year Grand Banquet will inspire all people to cherish diversity, promote unity, and excellence, laying new chapters for the future of Sarawak and Malaysia.
"Let us unite to make Sarawak a symbol of harmonious coexistence, cultural diversity, and shared prosperity, as we welcome a brighter future together."
